State Files Lawsuit Against Dali Owners
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced Tuesday the state has officially filed a lawsuit against the owners of the Dali – the cargo ship that struck and destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March. Brown referred to the Dali as a “dark missile” once it lost power and struck a bridge pier with catastrophic force. ASSAULT ARREST
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at approximately 12:40 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of W. Oldtown Rd. for a disturbance. Officers contacted the parties involved and learned that an assault had occurred prior to their arrival and the victim had sustained injuries. As a result of the investigation, Amanda Brown was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking where she is currently being held pending her initial appearance before the court. ARREST WARRANT SERVED
On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Corbit Arrowood Jr. The summons was issued in connection with an incident that occurred on September 18, 2024 when officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the first block of Greene Street for a reported stabbing. Police contacted the subjects involved and learned that a physical altercation had occurred between Arrowood and another party. Both subjects had sustained injuries. Save A Life Day
AHEC West’s Certified Peer Recovery Specialists will participate in Save A Life Day on Thursday, September 26 during National Recovery Month. Along with the Allegany and Garrett County Health Departments, AHEC West Peers will be at different sites in both counties distributing naloxone and other harm-reduction supplies. Peers will be present throughout the day at the Westernport, Frostburg, and LaVale branches of the Allegany County Library. Peers will also be at the TPM Recovery Resource Center in Keyser while health department staff will be in Lonaconing.
Allegany Football Game Moved to Thursday
Allegany High School has confirmed that its game with Albert Gallatin has been moved to Thursday at 7 p.m. at Uniontown. Gallatin cited a lack of officials for Friday night. WCBC will broadcast the game beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Arrest Made in Kitzmiller Murder Case
A South Dakota man has been arrested in Pennsylvania in the murder of a Garrett County woman early Tuesday. Nikolas Patrick James, 46, allegedly shot and killed Juanita Katherine James at her residence on Main Street in Kitzmiller. James is suspected of then setting the home on fire. Police discovered the victim's body in the back of the residence. James was being held in Pittsburgh late Tuesday, pending extradition to Maryland.
