WVDOH takes home two wins in 2024 Southeast Regional ROADeo in North Carolina

Equipment operators for the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) took home first and second place wins and came in fourth overall among 12 teams competing at the 2024 Southeast Regional ROADeo, held this year in Raleigh, North Carolina. “The safest place in the world to work is the West Virginia Department of Transportation,” said state Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston, P.E., who braved wet weather with Mountain State equipment operators to cheer them on during the competition. “We have undoubtedly the best operators in the entire country. “Last year, as we hosted the Regional ROADeo, we proved the best operators,”…

Governor Wes Moore today announced the appointment of Yvonne Briley-Wilson as acting correctional ombudsman of the newly established Office of Correctional Ombudsman. Frostburg State Volleyball team dropped a narrow 3-2 match to Goldey-Beacom on Friday evening in the second day of the Bobcat Invitational.   Senior AJ Thompson got the first set started with a kill off a feed from freshman Emery Kuebler, then proceeded to get the first of back-to-back FSU scores with freshman Dani Kunkle, as the hosts held a 7-5 lead. Warrant Arrests – Friday September 20

Friday, September 20, 2024 Christopher Jacob Seifarth, 35 of Cumberland, was arrested on a Circuit Court Grand Jury Indictment for Home Invasion, Assault-1st Degree, Assault-2nd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment. Seifarth is being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center. Brent Kevin Myers Jr., 37 of Cumberland, was arrested on a Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Violation of PreTrial Supervision. His original charges include: Violation of Probation on the conviction of CDS: Possess-Not Cannabis where he was sentenced to a 1-year jail term with all but 30-days suspended and 3-years Supervised Probation. FSU President Will Speak With WCBC

Frostburg State University has been making the news statewide recently, but it hasn’t been positive publicity.  First, the college released news of financial issues resulting in a $7 million structural deficit. Then, the faculty of the university returned a no-confidence vote for President Ron Nowaczyk, Acting President Al Delia, and Provost Traki Taylor. Recently, a state audit found that FSU did not comply with procurement policies and procedures with a new financial aid system and lost almost $700,000 when they decided not to use the system. Justice Department Files Lawsuit Over Bridge Collapse

The Justice Department has filed a civil lawsuit against the owner and operator of the ship that caused the deadly Baltimore bridge collapse. ABC s Derricke Dennis reports… “The lawsuit seeks more than 100 million dollars to recover the costs of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, plus punitive damages. It collapsed after a ship owned and operated by Singapore-based companies Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited hit a support pillar, downing the bridge into the Patapsco River. Fine Dining Certification Program

“Prepped to Serve Appalachia” is an accelerated fine dining worker certification program let by West Virginia Health Right in partnership with Chef Paul Smith, the state’s only James Beard Award-winning chef.  The program is funded through a $250,000 grant from WorkForce West Virginia to prepare a group of 40 West Virginians annually for careers in the fine dining industry.
