CDS ARREST

On Saturday, July 20, 2024 at approximately 9:32 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 400 block of Avirett Avenue for a suspicious male subject in a vehicle.  Officers contacted the subject who was identified as Matthew Brehm.  Police were able to observe in plain view that Brehm was in possession of a glass smoking pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine.  Brehm was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.   ARRESTED:  Matthew James Brehm       AGE:  44            Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  CDS: Possess Paraphernalia

TRESPASSING ARREST

On Saturday, July 20, 2024 at approximately 10:07 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department was on patrol in the area of Queen City Drive when they observed a male subject, Rodney Smith, walk across the train tracks.  The area is posted “CSX Property No Trespassing”.  The officer contacted Smith and issued him a criminal citation.  He was then released pending trial. Project Manager Named for River Park Project

The project manager has been named for the River Park project at Canal Place.  EcoLogix will be the consulting firm advising the development of the River Park project along the Potomac River.  EcoLogix has been in business for 25 years.

Allegany County Fair Wrapping Up

The Allegany County and Ag Expo wraps up this weekend.  Saturday night will feature a demolition derby beginning at 7:30.

Saturday Police Report

ASSAULT ARREST   On Friday, July 19, 2024 at approximately 11:50 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of S. Central Avenue for an assault.  Police contacted the alleged victim who reported that he had been assaulted by Rachael McKenzie.  Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries.  After further investigation, McKenzie was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  She was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.   ARRESTED:  Rachael Lynn McKenzie     AGE: 41        Cumberland, MD CHARGES:…

Governor Moore Announces Support for New Cable Manufacturing Facility in Baltimore

Governor Wes Moore today congratulated Belgian-based company Cenergy Holdings on its plans to establish a cable manufacturing facility in Maryland. UPMC Impacted, But Unaffected By Microsoft Outages

According to a UPMC Spokesperson,  UPMC has been impacted by the worldwide CrowdStrike cybersecurity outage affecting fewer than 10% of its Microsoft Windows-based devices at some of  their facilities. UPMC’s IT team intervened early to mitigate the problem and is restoring servers and PCs. Patient care has not been affected and the facilities are operational. The emergency departments are open and appointments and procedures will proceed as scheduled.

Thursday, July 18, 2024 Jason Scott Morris Jr., 26 of Westernport, was served 2 District Court Warrants: 1. Motor Vehicle/Unlawful Taking – MSP Warrant 2. Trespass – Private Property On 07/18/24 at approximately 7:40 A.M. the Allegany County Combined Warrant Unit received information that Morris, who has a history of fleeing and eluding law enforcement, was seen in an old blue SUV parked on a dirt access road off Klondike Road in the Frostburg area. Martin’s Market Undergoing Remodel

Martin’s Markets on Park Street is currently undergoing a remodel.  The process began back in June and is expected to be completed in October.  Giant Company Public Relations Manager Ashley Flower says the goal of the remodel is to refresh the look of the store and provide an enhanced shopping experience. Several departments including meat, seafood, bakery and health and beauty will be expanded. Digital screens are being added throughout the store to highlight products, deals, and provide meal inspiration.

West Virginia Empowers EMS Crews With New Protocols

New statewide emergency medical services protocols have rolled out to first responders in West Virginia. The design of the new protocols will provide faster decision-making capabilities in the field, allowing responders to think critically and address communication barriers in areas with limited telecommunications access. The new protocols are part of Governor Jim Justice’s “Answer The Call” initiative to expand EMS capacity.
