FSU Leaders Face No-Confidence Vote
Frostburg State University President Ron Nowaczyk and Al Delia who was acting President for a time both have received no-confidence votes from the FSU faculty. Over 80% of the faculty voted no confidence in the university leadership. Sources point to a lack of transparency, a move to Division II athletics, and top-down decision making. President Nowaczyk released a brief statement saying they are aware of the vote's outcome and a summary of comments by faculty will be takin into consideration as they move forward.
Braddock Middle In HOLD Status Briefly This Morning
Today, September 11, 2024, Braddock Middle School was placed in a brief HOLD status after school administration was notified of a possible threat with a weapon on a bus. Cumberland Police and school administration conducted an investigation and found two plastic, toy weapons. School administrators gave the “All Clear” and the instructional day has resumed as normal.
BURGLARY ARREST
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at approximately 10:15 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a condemned building in the 200 block of Baltimore Street in an attempt to locate a person. Officers observed that the door to the building was open. Police entered the building and observed two subjects, Tyrell Brown and Timothy Winkler, asleep on the first floor. It had been determined that nobody was allowed to be at the residence. Brown and Winkler were placed under arrest. WV Public Service Commission Facing Ratepayer Challenge
The Public Service Commission of West Virginia is facing legal challenges for its 2021 directive that Appalachian Power increase capacity at three of its coal plants. Critics say the utility is paying more to keep coal plants open, and passing the cost onto residents. Sports Book Dollars Boost Blueprint Fund
Over $377 million dollars in wagers were placed by gamers in August through the retail and mobile sports books in Maryland. That brought more than twice the tax revenue to the state than the previous August – a total of $5.6 million dollars. Wager totals increased 43% over August of 2023. The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Education Fund, where the tax money goes, surpassed $100 million for the first time.
