WV State Police Crack Down On Work Zone Speeding

West Virginia State Police recently conducted a work zone safety sweep along parts of Interstate 64. During the action, law enforcement stopped 146 vehicles and issued 105 speeding tickets. Officer tracked vehicles with radar and others were chased down. The fastest vehicle stopped was clocked at 94 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour work zone.  The West Virginia Department of Transportation urges drivers to pay attention and obey traffic laws in all work areas.

Allegany County Sheriff’s Office report for Monday June 17th

Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police have combined resources to target open and active warrants. As a result, the following individuals have been apprehended. Thursday, June 13, 2024 Dylan Michael Werner, 30 of Mount Savage, was served a District Court Arrest Warrant for Violation of Protective Order. Werner was later released on his own recognizance. Friday, June 14, 2024 Garrett Lee Flanagan-Wagaman, 26 of Cumberland, was served a District Court Arrest Warrant. Members of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club Inc will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise, June 22nd-23rd. For the second year in a row the Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Company brings home Best overall Wings at the First Peoples Wing-Off and Music Festival Saturday at the Allegany County fairgrounds. Seymour Street House Fire

Just after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday Cumberland Fire Department supported by Allegany County Emergency Services responded to a two-story residential house fire at 16 Seymour Street in Cumberland. The two alarm fire took about 30 minutes to extinguish. No report of serious injuries. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Hogan Hopes Maryland Can Regain Financial Stability

Maryland has managed to retain its Triple-A bond rating, despite the downgrade by Moody Financial to “negative” from “stable” for the state’s financial outlook.  Facing a growing deficit, the state has been scrambling to find revenue streams. The Maryland Joint Republican Caucus released a report showing that since Governor Moore took office in 2023, over 300 new taxes or fee increases have been implemented.  Former Governor Larry Hogan, now a republican Senate candidate, left office with a $5 billion surplus and says that Maryland needs to get spending in check…    

Merchant’s Alley On 2024 Garden Tour

One of the features on the Garden Club of Cumberland’s tour this year is Merchant’s Alley. Frostburg Certifies Election Results

The City of Frostburg released the certified results of their June 4 election.  Seats for Mayor and four commissioners were up for re-election.  All standing commissioners ran unopposed and were returned to office.  Incumbent Mayor Bob Flanigan was defeated by newcomer Todd Logsdon by just 88 votes.  Voter turnout for the election was just under 33%.

Trump Endorses Larry Hogan; Sentiment Not Returned

Former President Donald Trump has put his stamp of approval on Larry Hogan’s Maryland Senate seat bid.  After Hogan’s recent comments about Trump’s felony conviction riled the Republican National Committee, Trump says he wants those in office that will help the country… A spokesman for Hogan’s campaign said they were not given notice of the endorsement and there are no plans to reciprocate the gesture.

More Information on CSX Work In Cumberland

Progressive Railroading Magazine is reporting more details about the work in the Cumberland CSX yards. After the hump and hump tower are removed, additional tracks will be laid to optimize switching capabilities. The work, which is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year, will increase the number and type of rail cars the yard can process for better delivery of CSX customer inventory. CSX is also doing similar work at rail yards in Ohio and North Carolina.
