CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Linda Conner.  The summons was issued as the result of a private citizen filing for charges against Conner at the District Court of Allegany County.  Conner signed for her copy of the summons and she was released pending trial. Services Scheduled for Pat O’Rourke

Funeral services have been set for Pat O'Rourke, brother of WCBC's Tom O'Rourke. Sheridan Funeral Home of Lancaster, Ohio is taking care of arrangements. VIsitation will be Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. O'Rourke died Sunday at the age of 74.

Arrest Warrants Served

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Glenn Williams.  The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on June 3, 2024.  On this date at approximately 3:41 PM, police responded to a business in the 100 block of N. Centre Street for a theft.  The officer contacted the staff who reported that the suspect stole property from the store.  The suspect was no longer on scene.  After investigation, the suspect was identified as Glenn Williams.  Police filed for charges against Williams at the District Court of Allegany County.  Williams…

Warbirds Visiting Area

The Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is bringing their Warbird Showcase to the Greater Cumberland Airport. Three different airplanes will be available for public rides along with other aircraft on display June 15 and 16 from 10am to 4pm each day. Warbird rides will be available in a Stinson OY-1, A Fairchild UC-61 Forwarder, and a Boeing Stearman. Ride reservations are available at capitalwarbirdrides.org.

Gen Z Choosing Cumberland For Home Ownership

Generation Zers are successfully becoming homeowners by moving to more affordable metros.  A recent report from Realtor.com shows that Cumberland is number 5 of the top ten metros where Gen Z is buying homes.  The report shows that 15% of homebuyers in the area are under the age of 27.  Dave Myer of the Investment Podcast “On The Market” says Generation Z has more flexibility in where they can choose to live and work than prior generations…

Mayor and City Council Adopt Budget

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council formally adopted their budget for Fiscal Year 2025 at Tuesday’s meeting.  The total budget is $86.2 million for the coming year which includes Fire, Police, and Administration, water, and sewer. West Virginia Heading Toward Another Surplus

With just over three weeks left in the 2024 Fiscal Year, West Virginia is banking another hefty surplus. Fiscal Year 2023 ended with a record $1.8 billion dollars in surplus funds to the state and revenue collections for the year to date indicate another excess of near $800 million dollars could be achieved.  Governor Jim Justice celebrated the surplus while at a bill signing near the West Virginia Turnpike near Beckley, marking the importance of what he calls “minding the shop”…

Leadership Allegany Participants Will Visit Annapolis

Applications for the nine-month program of Leadership Allegany, supported by the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, are now available.
