Trevor Train the Trainer Pilot Program Launched
A first-in-the-nation, Trevor Train the Trainer pilot program has been launched in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health and The Trevor Project, the leading suicide prevention organization for LGBTQIA+ young people. The pilot program hopes to reduce suicides among LGBTQIA+ youth by combining elements of Ally Training and CARE Training. Ally Training provides a basic framework for understanding LGBTQIA+ identities and the unique challenges young people face. CARE Training focuses on suicide prevention and mental health for LGBTQIA+ young people, including the environmental stressors that contribute to a heightened risk of suicide.
Vintage WWII Warbirds to Fly at Cumberland Airport
Culpeper, VA – The Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) will present a Warbird Showcase at the Greater Cumberland Airport Saturday and Sunday June 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and admission are free. Bench Warrant Served
On Monday, June 3, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a Circuit Court bench warrant on Melissa Congrove. The warrant was issued as the result of Congrove failing to appear in court. She was originally charged with Accessory After the Fact. Congrove was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where she is currently being held without bond pending her appearance before the court.
Criminal Summons Issued
On Monday, June 3, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Angel Page. The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on June 1, 2024. On this date at approximately 8:50 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department observed Angel Page operating a motor vehicle on Willimas Street. The officer was able to confirm that Page does not possess a valid driver’s license. The officer was unable to conduct a traffic stop at that time. James “Snake” Robertson Has Passed
Long time member of Local 307, United Electrical Workers, James "Snake" Robertson, passed away this past weekend. Robertson was involved with the Western Maryland Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for many years and had been an instructor and training director. Mr. Robertson served as the chairman of the Building Trades Foundation at the Center for Career and Technical Education, an executive member of the local advisory council, member of the Program Advisory Committee for the Electrical Program, and in various seats of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce as well as the Chamber's Education Committee for many years. Hagerstown Regional Airport Adds Flights
Hagerstown Regional Airport has additions to its summer and fall/winter flight schedule. Travelers now have increased flights to Orlando-Sanford and St. Pete-Clearwater, which will be available four days a week through February 10 with a peak of six weekly flights to those two cities June 23 through August 13. Expanded service to Myrtle Beach is offered through November 11 with four flights weekly. Allegiant’s schedule is available at flyhgr.com.
Funding from National Drug Control Announced
U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen along with other Maryland Delegation members have announced funding from the White House Office Of National Drug Control Policy to bolster addiction treatment resources and support law enforcement efforts to tackle illicit drugs in Maryland communities. Over $16 million will be spent to support law enforcement and community based solutions. Garrett County’s Health Department will receive $50,000 to address illicit drugs in their community.
