West Virginia Primary Election Results

West Virginia primary election has 20 Democratic delegates and 32 Republican delegates. Republican Governor Jim Justice is term limited and running for Senate. Republican candidate for Governor is Patrick Morrisey with 74,774 votes and Steve Williams with the Democratic party running unopposed. Incumbent Senator Joe Manchin a Democrat has chosen not to run for reelection with Governor Justice as the front runner receiving 137,605 votes and Democrat, Glenn Elliott receiving 45,955 votes. The race for Attorney General has voters supporting John McCuskey, Republican receiving 116,158 votes and Teresa Toriseva, Democrat receiving 49,8003 votes.

Maryland DNR Has New Superintendent

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has a new Superintendent. Orlando D. Lilly is the 11th Superintendent of the DNR Police unit. The former Baltimore County Police Major and Navy veteran assumes the rank of Colonel. He takes over the post most recently held by Col. Adrian Baker, who retired in January 2023. Van Hollen and Fetterman Introduced the Moving Transit Forward Act

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and John Fetterman have introduced legislation to boost federal funding for state and local transit agencies to improve service, safety, and reliability for riders. The Moving Transit Forward Act creates a new federal funding program to provide transit agencies with additional resources to supplement operating budgets and help cover the costs of adding new routes, service frequency, and preventing cuts to current services. Recipients of funding must maintain the same level of non-federal funding as the most recent fiscal year to ensure that service is expanded or previously cut services are restored.

WV Flags Displayed at Half-Staff

Governor Jim Justice has ordered all United States and West Virginia flags at the Capitol Complex and state-owned facilities in West Virginia to be displayed at half-staff from midnight until sunset on Wednesday, May 15 in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is part of National Police Week in West Virginia. The governor said the members of West Virginia's law enforcement play an essential role in safeguarding our rights and freedoms. It's crucial to acknowledge and respect the immense responsibilities of these men and women who courageously put their lives on the line to provide this public service.

PA Has Jobs That Need Filled

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has signed an Executive Order establishing the Hire, Improve, Recruit, Empower or HIRE Committee to expand opportunity for those seeking careers in public service.   The Governor signed the Executive Order during the Commonwealth Job Fair, where over 40 state agencies set up recruitment tables with information on open Commonwealth positions.  Governor Shapiro says jobs are available that need filled now…

FirstEnergy Conducting Aerial Inspections

FirstEnergy is conducting aerial inspections of nearly 7,000 miles of transmission lines in its service territory using helicopters equipped with infrared technology. This work helps ensure that high-voltage power lines and equipment remain clear of trees and vegetation. Inspections are scheduled to take place from May to mid-September. The helicopters will fly approximately 300 to 400 feet above the transmission lines at speeds between 25 and 35 miles per hour. If any clearance concerns are identified by the helicopter patrols, ground crews will follow up to further inspect or address.

Disturbing the Peace Arrests On Tuesday May 14 th , 2024 at approximately 1:35 am, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 block of Maryland Avenue for a reported disturbance. Officers had been to the residence earlier in the evening where Corinne Devyak had been intoxicated and creating a disturbance, and was advised to keep the peace. Upon officer’s arrival they were able to hear Devyak to again be creating a disturbance that could be heard from outside of the residence. Devyak was contacted and issued a Criminal Citation for disorderly conduct and was released pending her…

Arrest Warrant Served

On Tuesday May 14th, 2024 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on David Bernauer. Th Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when Bernauer failed to comply with his pre-trial release conditions. Bernauer was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond. Arrest: David John Bernauer, age 41, Cumberland Maryland. Charge: Failure to Comply
