Virtual Education Plan Approved in Case of Long Term Shut Down
The Allegany County Board of Education approved an instructional plan to utilize in case of another long-term shut down of schools. Early Voting Ends Today – May 9
Today is the last day to participate in early voting for the upcoming Primary election. Across the state, early voting numbers are down, but Allegany County Election Administrator Diane Loibel is not surprised about low turnout locally… So far, the State Board of Elections shows that 682 early in-person votes cast in Allegany County. City’s Lobbyist in Annapolis Provides Update
Tuesday evening, the City of Cumberland received an update from Percy Public Affairs, the city’s lobbyist in Annapolis. Richard Reinhardt of Percy went over legislative wins for the city, including securing $500,000 in state grants toward the Evitts Creek Combined Sewer Overflow project. The city was not as fortunate in receiving needed financing for widening the intersection of Mechanic and Harrison streets. However, Reinhardt has plans in place to get assistance for the project… Reinhardt said the City should be pleased with the combined total of operational and capital funds received by the city, Allegany Museum, and the Western Maryland…
Phone Problems Seem to be Subsiding
For those who have been having problems with landline phones and cell phones not communicating with each other, there may be some good news. It appears the issues that have been causing calls to drop out or not connect may now be rectified. Bench Warrant Served
On Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Corbit Harry Arrowood Jr, 49, of Romney WV. Arrowood was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court. The warrant alleges Arrowood failed to comply with an order of the court that stemmed from a previous trespassing charge. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond. Gov. Justice announces School Building Authority approves $26.2 million for statewide projects

Maryland State Highway Making Progress in Ocean City
It’s just a few weeks before Memorial Day weekend and the kickoff to the summer season in Ocean City and the State Highway Administration says it’s making progress at the Eastern Shore resort. Efforts to widen Route 90 into the heart of Ocean City are progressing and the Route 50 entrance into Ocean City will see an intersection better designed to avoid flooding. Pedestrian safety efforts continue along Coastal Highway as well.
National Bike Safety Month
In 2022, there were over one thousand bicyclist fatalities. Over 46,000 bike riders were injured. Bicycle safety is important year-round, but National Bicycle Safety Month helps to bring heightened awareness to the issue.
