Fire Rescue, Emergency Medical service and Law Enforcement responded to a motor vehicle accident with rollover on Mount Savage Road just before 8 p.m. Saturday night. No fatal injuries were reported. The road was reopened just after 8:45 p.m.

Gov. Justice and First Lady Cathy Justice announced the next six therapy dogs that will be placed in Communities In Schools sites across West Virginia as a part of the First Lady’s Friends With Paws initiative. Frostburg State Women's Tennis team lost 4-2 to Fairmont State in their first-ever appearance in the MEC Tournament on Saturday. Fairmont started out strong in doubles play, winning 6-3 at both the two and three spots to earn the point. Fire Hero Families from across the U.S. will attend the 43rd Annual National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, MD, May 4 – 5, 2024. This year’s national tribute will memorialize 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2023 and 137 firefighters who died in previous years.
A hit and run accident on I 68 Friday morning caused serious injuries and closed the interstate for over two hours. Police are seeking information about a white box truck which forced a pickup truck down an 80 foot embankment. The driver of the pickup was eventually extricated and flown to UPMC by Trooper 5.
A founding member of the local band Chinese Bandits has died. Terry Workman, 75, died Thursday. Workman founded the popular band in 1973 and he was a teacher at Fort Hill for 27 years. Workman was the keyboard player for Chinese Bandits.
A home on Winchester Road suffered considerable damage on Friday morning after an electrical malfunction caused a fire to the structure. Neighbors alerted the homeowners to a fire on their back deck. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire and suffered minor burns. The LaVale Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident and brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes. Winchester Road was shut down to traffic for a short time.
Saturday, May 4th, 2024. ***Adult Arrest*** On Friday, May 3rd, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Steven Sharp, 43, of Berlin PA. Sharp was arrested for being a fugitive from justice when it was discovered that he had an extraditable arrest warrant issued in Somerset County PA. The warrant was issued for an April 30th incident and charged Sharp with strangulation, aggravated assault, and harassment. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on without bond, awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania….
