Theft Arrest
On Thursday, April 18, 2024 at approximately 9:43 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Greene Street for a shoplifting complaint. Officers contacted the suspect who was identified as William Wight. The staff reported that Wight and another suspect did not pay for items and placed them into Wight’s backpack. After further investigation, Wight was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. Wight was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.
Bench Warrant Arrest
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Andrew Donaldson. The warrant was issued as the result of Donaldson failing to appear in court. He was originally charged with driving without a license. Donaldson was arrested and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond.

FSU’s Chemistry Department Chair Explains Route to Pharmacy Degree
Frostburg State University and the West Virginia School of Pharmacy have a new partnership that will give FSU students a shorter route to a Pharmacy degree. ACOM Open House Scheduled

Elevator Service at City Hall to Be Interrupted
Elevator service at Cumberland City Hall is going to be interrupted starting April 22nd through May 31st for replacement. Tax and Utility Customers can make payments online at www.cumberlandmd.gov, a drop box outside of City Hall, a drive-by box at the Chamber of Commerce, or by phone with a credit card by calling 844-984-0459. Citizens coming to City Hall who are unable to use the stairs will be able to utilize a telephone located at the basement entry on Frederick Street to call for assistance.
Mayor Comments on Blighted Properities
During the Mayor and Council work session this week, the recently signed agreement with Teabow Residential was reviewed. Mayor Ray Morriss says that the first step in revitalizing a city is getting rid of blight, and Teabow will be working to fill those empty spaces in town with new construction… For existing housing, Mayor Morriss says work is being done on that front as well…
McKay Still Wants to Meet with Canal Place
Senator Mike McKay withdrew his bill in the Maryland General Assembly concerning the reorganization of Canal Place, but he feels the issue hasn’t truly been dealt with.
