Drake's Darian DeVries is West Virginia University next men's basketball coach, a five-year deal, the school announced Sunday. The hire comes in the wake of a nationwide search that saw WVU officials visit multiple candidates in person. DeVries had emerged as one of the country's top mid-major coaches in recent years, leading Drake to the NCAA tournament in three of the past four seasons. Warrant Arrests

On Sunday, March 24th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Christopher Scott Moss, 48, of Cumberland MD. Moss was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on March 17th. During that incident, it is alleged that Moss made several phone calls to a local church of a threatening nature. During the calls, Moss threatened to damage the church and made threats of arson. Allegany College Season Ends at Hutchinson, Kansas

Cowley Community College downed the Allegany College Trojans Sunday afternoon, 87-64, in a game broadcast by WCBC Radio.  The Trojans trailed 39-24 at halftime and the team committed 23 turnovers in the contest.  Jason Thomas led the Trojans with 16 points.

Arrest Warrants Served

On Saturday March 23rd, 2024 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Jordan Shook. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court stemming from a breaking and entering investigation on February 16th, 2024. During the incident Officers of the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to the ten block of Allegany Street for a reported breaking and entering. Officers spoke with the victim of the incident and was advised of numerous items that were stolen, and was provided with video footage of the incident. NJCAA National Tournament today #24 Trojans face #9 Cowley today on WCBC

Allegany College of Maryland plays in the opening round of the NJCAA National Tournament today on WCBC. The Trojans qualified with an automatic bid to Hutchinson, Kansas with their East District Championship last weekend at Bob Kirk Arena. This is the second National Tournament berth for Allegany College under Tommie Reams who is in his 11th year as head mens basketball coach. The #24 Trojans face #9 Cowley today on WCBC at 1:15.

Hit and Run Investigation

The Cumberland Police Department is seeking the publics assistance in a hit and run investigation. On March 24th, 2024 at approximately 3:10 am officers of the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of Henderson Avenue for a motor vehicle crash. Upon officer’s arrival they observed one vehicle with significant disabling damage and another to have damage as well. The officers observed both vehicles to have been unoccupied and the damage on the vehicles indicated another vehicle was involved that had fled the scene. Farmer’s Market opens on April 25th at Canal Place Festival Grounds

Allegany Farmer's Market opens on April 25th at Canal Place Festival Grounds. Again this year musicians will perform twice a month May – September for a total of (10) events. Melinda Kelleher, Executive Director Downtown Development Commission says this year the DDC is offering sponsorship opportunities for business. The Farmer's Market is a very popular weekly event in Cumberland with lots of foot traffic!
