Shields, Mesy, Haines, Turner Win 4×100 in Men’s Track & Field Outdoor Opening Meet

Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team opened their outdoor season at the Stan Romanoksi Open on Friday and Saturday, with multiple top-15 finishes in their first outdoor meet of the year. Frostburg knotted one first place finish on the day in the track events, with the team of junior Nathaniel Mesy and freshmen Nate Shields, Logan Haines, and Ka'Von Turner running a 43.16 in the 4×100 relay. Downtown Construction Updates

The Downtown Development Commission has shared an update on their ongoing construction project.  Recently, roadway paver installation continued on North Liberty Street – that section is almost 90% complete. Concrete work started at the intersection of Baltimore and Centre Streets and along North Centre Street. And the wall at the CBIZ building is undergoing restoration work. Peter Angelos Dead at 94

Former Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos died at age 94 Saturday after a long illness.  Angelos bought the Orioles in 1993.  The team did not win a World Series during his tenure and suffered 14 straight losing seasons.  Angelos had a hugely successful career as a lawyer.

Congressman David Trone Uses Racial Slur in Hearing

A Maryland congressman who is running for Senate has apologized for what he said was the inadvertent use of a racial slur during a budget hearing. Rep. David Trone, a Democrat, said he confused the word he used with another one as he spoke about tax rates. The congressman, who is the founder of the national Total Wine & More chain, made the comment while saying corporate tax rates didn’t influence how he conducted business.  Trone said he meant to say “bugaboo” but instead uttered a racial slur.

Allegany Wins State Mock Trial Title

The Allegany High School mock trial team won the state title in Annapolis Friday.  Allegany completed a 13-0 season and has now won three state titles under Coach Brian White.

Criminal Summons Served      On March 22, 2024, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Robyn Terry. The Criminal Summons was issued by the District Court. The original incident occurred on March 3, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland. Officers responded and were advised that Robyn Terry had assaulted two employees. The investigation revealed that Terry had also assaulted one employee the day before.  Arrest: Robyn Terry, age 71, Cumberland Maryland.   Charge: Three counts of Assault 2nd degree.                               Bench Warrant Served      On March 22, 2024, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a…

ACM Students Visit Penn State Reactor & Lab

On February 26, six students from Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) toured the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor and a cleanroom laboratory at Penn State University’s College of Engineering. The students are currently enrolled in chemistry and physics courses at ACM. They were joined by Steven Heninger, a professor of chemistry and physics, and Michèle Barmoy, a professor of biology, at ACM.  The students and faculty members were given a ‘no photos’ tour of the Brazeale Nuclear Reactor and the Radiation Science & Engineering Center by Zach Van Horn, the Penn State Brazeale nuclear operator and outreach coordinator.
