Suspicious Fire Being Investigated

The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred at a residential outbuilding March 6 in the late afternoon on Elm Street in Cumberland.  A recliner located inside the structure was set on fire, causing $500 in damages. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fire Marshal’s office at 301-766-3888.

AGs Want Action From META On Takeovers

Attorneys General from 40 states have written to social media giant META in reference to a decided increase in account takeover incidents. These incidents include takeovers, lockouts, stealing personal information, and posting harmful content. Consumers who have these incidents happen appeal to either their state attorney general or the Federal Trade Commission when no live service can be had from META. The letter requests a meeting with META leadership to discuss causes and response actions.

Garrett County Couple Arrested for June 2023 House Fire

A Garrett County man and woman were charged after a grand jury handed up indictments for an arson fire last summer that killed two cats and almost a kennel of puppies at their home. Christopher J. Baker, 36, and April J. Fazenbaker, 41, both of Friendsville, were charged with first-degree arson and conspiracy to commit first-degree arson after a lengthy investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.  Just after 7:15 a.m. on June 1, 2023, firefighters responded to a reported house fire at 339 Cherry Lane Road in Friendsville.
