Sparrows Point Will Re-Tool For Wind Industry
A former Bethlehem Steel site in Sparrows Point, Maryland is now set to become a major manufacturing hub for offshore wind components through a $47 million grant from the US Maritime Administration. Sparrows Point sits on 100 acres of waterfront and will be transformed into a production facility for offshore wind projects, staging, and transport to sites off the East Coast. It will be key to establishing a domestic supply chain for loading and shipping as well as the manufacture of monopole foundations and towers needed for wind turbines.
Threat to A Public Official Arrest
On Monday November 20th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Kamal Datta. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court stemming from an incident where Datta made threats against the life of a District Court Judge. During the incident Datta contacted officers via a phone call, and the threats were made at that time. An application for charges was completed and this Arrest Warrant was issued. Allegany County Board of Ed Ready for Teacher Raises
The Blueprint for Education program in the state of Maryland has five distinct pillars that it is using to elevate education. Pillar Two of the Blueprint deals with hiring and retaining “high quality and diverse teachers and leaders.” Many counties in the state are still dealing with teacher shortages well into the school year. MSEA Union Employees Very Well Paid
Recently the Maryland State Education Association, the teachers’ union, has come under fire for the exorbitant salaries paid to union employees – MSEA’s federal reports show that the 93 union employees make on average over $180,000 a year in salary and benefits. Horton Continues to Draw Ire
The Allegany County Commissioners have probably not heard the last word of opposition to the choice of D.R. Horton as the developer for the West Side housing site once occupied by Allegany High School.
