Fort Hill Threat Deemed Non-Credible

According to Public Information Officer Christian Brooks,  administration at Fort Hill High School was notified of a threatening note written on a bathroom wall. Cumberland City Police, along with school administration, conducted an investigation and found the threat to be non-credible. There was no disruption to the school day. 

UPMC Performs First TAVR Procedure

The UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Western Maryland has performed its first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure. The patient, Dr. Ed Root, 83, of Cumberland, is recovering well at home. TAVR is a sophisticated alternative to open-heart surgery for patients with aortic valve disease and is minimally invasive. It is used to treat patients with aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the heart’s aortic valve that can lead to debilitating symptoms, such as shortness of breath, lightheadedness and fatigue or shortened lifespan. “I appreciated this option primarily because of the recovery time. West Virginia Recognizes Social Work Month

The West Virginia Department of Human Services is recognizing March as Social Work month in the state.  Through the Bureau of Social Services, social workers are employed in various capacities to address the needs of individuals and families across West Virginia. Governor Jim Justice made a special proclamation for the month, saying social workers are on the front lines solving pressing social problems including help with opioid addiction and mental health issues.

American Pickers Coming Through Area

Social Media Platforms Experience Outage

Facebook, Instagram, and X all had outages on Tuesday morning.  Users reported being kicked off the platforms, feeds not loading, or problems with passwords.  Meta's status page showed major disruptions with logins and said they were aware of the issue.  No reason has been given for the outage and most users are able to access platforms again.  

Police Warrant Arrests

On Monday, March 4th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Drezdin Jose Delgado, 22, of Cumberland MD. Delgado was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on February 26th. During that incident, it is alleged that Delgado stole approximately $200 worth of clothing from a LaVale sporting goods store. Delgado was taken before a District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond. The 27th annual United Way Day of Caring and Sharing is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024. Day of Caring and Sharing is a partnership between United Way of Allegany County, Let’s Beautify Cumberland! and the City of Cumberland. Cox Says Biden Is Trying To Intimidate Him

Maryland Congressional Candidate Dan Cox is claiming that President Joe Biden is trying to intimidate him.  In a social media post, Cox is seen at an open window in his home in Cascade, Maryland, claiming that a number of Blackhawk helicopters made low sweeps over his property. The Republican candidate lives about 12 miles from Camp David where President Biden stayed for the weekend. Cox says the scare tactics are being used because he spoke out about a journalist for radio host Glenn Beck being arrested…
