Local Attorney Facing Charges In County and Kentucky
A local attorney is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on various charges after an arrest on Friday morning. This follows an arrest on September 25 in Kentucky on reckless driving and drug charges. David James Hare, 53, was arrested in Mount Sterling, Kentucky after the car he was driving almost hit a police cruiser. He was cited for reckless driving, operating a vehicle under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.
Hazing Investigation at Windber High School
The head football coach at Windber High School in Somerset County has been suspended due to a hazing investigation. Three players were also suspended. The coach and the players missed Windber’s homecoming game last Friday.
ARC Meeting at Frostburg State
The Appalachian Regional Commission is meeting at Frostburg State University Monday and Tuesday. Maryland Governor Wes Moore is scheduled to speak. The ARC was formally established in 1965 under President Lyndon Johnson.
Dems See Reopening Government As Just Part of the Problem
With the government shutdown, it became even more obvious that healthcare is a main discussion point. Obama-era tax credits and subsidies for health insurance are set to end at the end of the year. Maryland Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth said such tax credits are needed in light of increasing healthcare costs… “Right here in Maryland, 190,000 Marylanders will be impacted if Congress does not act to expand the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits. We already know that premiums are set to go up by 13% on January first, that’s why this moment is so important.”
Delegate To Offer Legislation On State Foster Care System
Maryland Delegate Mike Griffith, a Republican from Cecil and Harford counties, plans legislation later this year addressing issues within the state’s foster care system. Following the death of a girl in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services, the legislation would prohibit placing foster children in hotels for more than a week without review and authorization and require background checks for one-on-one providers. Fort Hill Gun Club Has Long History

Broadway Circle Assault Arrest
On October 5th, 2025 at approximately 2:23 p.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to Broadway Circle for an assault. Upon arrival officers contacted the victim who advised that they were in an argument with Amber Marie Davis and she assaulted them. Officers observed injuries consistent with the victim's statement and placed Davis under arrest for the assault. Davis was transported to Central Booking and was presented before an Allegany County District Court commissioner, where she was released on her own recognizance. County: “Crickets” From FEMA
On Thursday, the Allegany County Commissioners approved another half-million dollars in contracts for repairs and restoration in the Georges Creek area for flood damages. The total spend for the county is now touching $4 million. With the federal government shutdown, an answer from FEMA for relief funds has been further delayed. Heritage Area Expansion On Hold
The Heritage Area Management Plan through Canal Place was set to expand the Passages of the Western Potomac area in January of 2026. However, with Cumberland, Frostburg and Allegany County all working on their comprehensive plans, DeDe Richie, Director of Canal Place, says the expansion plans will have to wait and may not be complete for another year-and-a-half… “By the time that it goes through public hearing and the Maryland Heritage Area, who has 90 days to review, I’m thinking it’s going to be July of 2027 when all this happens.”
