Arrest Warrant Served

On January 15th, Officers from the Cumberland Police Department (CPD) served a Circuit Court Bench Warrant on Andrew Jacob Getz. The warrant stems from several counts involving possessing, distributing and conspiracy to distribute narcotics. Officers located Adrew in the 700 block of Lafayette Ave. He was served the warrant and transported to Allegany County Detention Center to await his hearing. Summons Served

On January 15th, Officers from the Cumberland Police Department (CPD) served a criminal summons on Mikayla Elizabeth Holliday at which she signed for and was released from the scene. Mikayala was located in the 500 block of Fairmont Ave. The summons stems from an incident earlier in the month to where Mikayla is accused of defrauding the victim by way of a social media fund raiser. Commonwealth Investing In Long-Term Care Facilities

Across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Quality Investment Pilot funding is helping long-term care facilities implement   strategies to enhance the level of care their residents receive.  Earlier this year the Department of Health consolidated its older Pennsylvania care efforts into the LongTerm Care Transformation Office. This office provides guidance and assistance to care communities, working with multiple state agencies and stakeholder organizations to understand industry challenges and implement positive changes.  Acting Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen spoke about the types of investments Office is funding to help enhance infrastructure in facilities….    

EV Charging Stations Planned Across State

Governor Wes Moore joined U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg, to announce that the Maryland Clean Energy Center, the state’s official green bank, will receive a $15 million Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Program grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding will support installation of 58 electric vehicle charging stations across the state.  The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program will strategically deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in urban and rural areas alike – in addition to along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors.

Cumberland Fire Department out for electrical wires down call on Washington Street and Prospect Square. The electrical pole snapped off at the base, wires are down on the street. Potomac Edison's has been dispatched to the call.

Winter Weather Advisory until 10AM Tuesday

Snow expected, total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches in portions of north central and western Maryland and the panhandle of West Virginia from 7AM this morning to 10AM Tuesday. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Instructions: Slow down and use caution while traveling. When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

More Money Coming For Nursing Shortages

Almost $3 million in grants from the Maryland Higher Education Commission have been announced to help address the state’s nursing shortage. This comes in addition to funding announced in July that will help support the need for more nurse educators who are critical in getting students out of the classroom and into the healthcare system.  Funds will support 49 new nurse faculty at universities and community colleges in the state including Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University.
