Historic Cemetery Organization Lauded For Efforts

Cumberland Police Seeking Missing Juvenile

Update… The missing juvenile has been located. The Cumberland Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing juvenile, Ava Kay Bucklin. Ava is a 12-year-old white female, 5’09”, 160 pounds, with long brown hair and brown eyes. Ava was last seen on December 06, 2023, at approximately 12:30 AM, on Virginia Avenue in Cumberland, Maryland, wearing gray and pink fleece pajama-style pants, a gray shirt with lace around the top, and a brown jacket. Anyone with information as to her whereabouts should call the Cumberland City Police Department at 301-777-1600. Callers can remain anonymous.

Hyndman Man Jailed For Threatening Governor

A Bedford County man is in jail for allegedly threatening the Governor of Pennsylvania.  Hyndman resident Blayk Bridges is behind bars after being charged with making terroristic threats with intent to terrorize. The charges stem from threats within an email that claims Governor Josh Shapiro is withholding benefits from Bridges and his family. He is currently being held in the Bedford County jail on $500,000 bond.

Still Time To Get Flu Vaccine

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Public Health reminds residents that there is still time to protect themselves and their loved ones from flu this season with an annual flu vaccine. Flu vaccination among West Virginians has been lower in recent years since the pandemic, with only 30.7% of the population estimated to be vaccinated as of November.  Standard flu vaccines are approved and recommended for most children ages 6 months or older. Scammers have been known to call senior citizens pretending to be a grandchild. Others claim to be law enforcement with news about a loved one. They often indicate the grandchild is in another state and in dire need of money due to an emergency. These thieves rely on the goodwill of grandparents and may result in those receiving such calls not taking time to check all the facts. Council Hears Proposal Regarding Washington’s Headquarters

A proposed answer to the ongoing vagrancy issues around the area of George Washington’s headquarters was presented to the Cumberland City Council Tuesday night.  Ed Taylor, Jr. of the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization, put forth the suggestion on behalf of the Cresap Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution… Peggy Keene of the DAR addressed the council about the area around the headquarters and previous attempts to clean up the site…    

WV Treasurer Disagrees With Kerry on Coal

President Biden’s Climate Envoy John Kerry announcing at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference that the United States would join the international Powering Past Coal Alliance, which would commit the U.S. to building no new coal-fired power plants and phase out existing plants…  This has resulted in a quick rebuke from West Virginia Treasurer Riley Moore, who says the state is now fighting its second round of the war against coal.  He agrees with the head of the COP28 Summit that says the fossil-fuel phase out would take the world “back into caves.”…  

Delegation Often Plays Defense For Area

The Western Maryland Legislative delegation to Annapolis is going to be busy come January. Mini-Grants Available Through Heritage Area

The Passages of the Western Potomac Heritage Area has a problem.  A good one.
