Driver Arrested With Loaded Handgun

On Monday afternoon, a Cumberland Police Officer conducted a traffic stop of a driver using a cell phone while driving.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as Paul Allen Liebig, 71 years old, from Keyser.  While the officer was speaking with Liebig, illegal items in Liebig’s vehicle were observed.  A probable cause search was conducted and the search revealed a loaded handgun in the back seat.  A search of Liebig was conducted and revealed suspected Cocaine in his pocket.  Liebig was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his initial appearance.  

Criminal Summons Served

On December 5th, 2023 Officers from the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Kurt Jason Wilt. The summons stems from an incident at Family Dollar at 35 Queen City Drive. A subject was seen shoplifting and left the store. Officers reviewed video and identified the suspect as Kurt Wilt. An application was filed and signed for by Kurt Wilt. Warrants Served

On December 5th, 2023 Officers from the Cumberland Police Department served a Circuit Court Warrant on Nicholas Roy Sneden for Violation of Probation. The original charge is CDS possession with intent to Distribute. He was taken to the Detention Center where he was held without bond. Recent Arrests

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police – Barrack C have combined resources to target open and active warrants. As a result, the following individuals have been apprehended. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 Jared Nathaniel Citarelli, 35 of Westernport, was served a Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Violation of Probation. His original conviction was for CDS: Possess-Not Marijuana where he received a 1-year suspended sentence with 3-years supervised probation. Arrests By City Police

On December 4th, 2023 Officers from the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Robin Colleen Schaeffer for being owner of uninsured vehicle and allowing another person to drive the uninsured vehicle. Garden Club Has Tree Featured At State House

A little bit of Allegany County is in Annapolis for Christmas.  Recently the Cumberland Garden Club decorated a tree at the Maryland State House for the holidays.  This is the seventh year that the club has created a tree to represent the county. The Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland decorate the main hall rotunda of the State House with a tree or wreath from each county. This year’s Allegany County tree has a theme that honors area veterans.  The holiday display runs through the end of the year and is free and open to the public.
