February 23rd, 2022 by WCBC Radio

On Tuesday, February 22, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a residence on the 400 block of Bedford St for a report of a male that had broken into a residence and was in possession of a knife.  The suspect, John Henry Goodman IV, age 33 of Baltimore, MD was located on Linden St and detained.  The victim was able to positively identify Goodman and he was placed under arrest.  During the incident, Goodman arrived at the residence and began to knock on the door.  When the occupant opened the door, Goodman forced his way into the residence and began to swing a knife at the two occupants.  A male victim received a laceration to his arm.  A female was also inside.  Goodman swung the knife in her direction, however missed her and struck the wall instead.  At that point the male occupant was able to force Goodman back out the door and locked it.  Once outside, Goodman broke several windows before fleeing the scene and being apprehended by police.  A search was conducted and Goodman was found to be in possession of crack cocaine.  Goodman was charged with two counts of First Degree Assault, two counts of Second Degree Assault, Destruction of Property, Reckless Endangerment, First Degree Burglary, Fourth Degree Burglary, and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance-Not Marijuana.

A wanted check was conducted and Goodman was also found to have an outstanding warrant.  The warrant was a result of an incident that occurred in October, 2021 at a residence on the 200 block of Bond St.  Cumberland Police were called to the residence for a report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival they located a male victim with an apparent stab wound, bleeding heavily.  The Cumberland Fire Department was summoned to the scene to treat the victim and he was transported to the hospital.  During that incident the male victim was inside his residence with two males that he was familiar with.  An altercation began and the male victim was stabbed.  The suspects had fled the scene prior to police arrival.  Investigators were able to identify one of the suspects as John Henry Goodman IV.  Charges were filed resulting in an arrest warrant.  The warrant charged Goodman with First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, and Dangerous Weapon with the Intent to Injure.

Goodman was taken to Central Booking for his initial appearance with District Court Commissioner.  He was held without Bond.
