Police Make Arrest After Assault Complaint

March 24th, 2022 by WCBC Radio

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at approximately 8:49 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 900 block of Gay Street for a domestic disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers contacted several occupants inside the apartment.  One of the residents was identified as Bethany Montague.  Montague was uncooperative with the police in their attempt to investigate the incident.  It was soon discovered that Montague had an active bench warrant for her arrest.  The warrant was issued as a result of Montague violating her probation.  While attempting to place Montague under arrest, she pulled away and assaulted one of the officers, striking him in the face with her fist.  Bethany continued to resist arrest and was still attempting to assault officers.  Officers were eventually able to place Montague in hand restraints.  When the officers were attempting to get Montague out of the apartment and into a police cruiser to be transported, she assaulted three more officers.  Her actions attracted the attention of multiple neighbors in the area.  Montague was able to be placed into a police cruiser by officers.  She was then transported to Central Booking.  It was learned that Montague had also assaulted a victim in the apartment prior to police arrival.  Montague is currently awaiting her initial appearance at District Court.
