The process to hire an interim superintendent of schools in Allegany County is moving at a deliberate pace to say the least- however things may be heating up as several sources are maintaining that the majority board has a short list of candidates, headed by former Superintendent William Aumiller. Aumiller, 73, retired as superintendent in June of 2009 and has taught at Frostburg State University since. Board of Education President Robert Farrell served as chief of security during Aumiller’s tenure and the two have been described as friends. The Aumiller rumor has been circulating in the community since the new board took office in January- but when asked about it during an appearance on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” several months ago- Farrell said he was not aware of any talks by any board members to bring Aumiller back. Adding to the Aumiller intrique: he is retiring from FSU. That news combined with the desire of the board to have an interim in place prior to the start of the next school year in August- has re-ignited the Aumiller speculation. Efforts to reach Aumiller for comment were not successful.

WCBC radio is Cumberland’s own National Enquirer. The so-called reporting consists of, by their own admission, as rumor.
Isn’t this the definition of fake news?
I was always under the impression that the press, any press, local or otherwise, was supposed to publish fact and not rumor.
It doesn’t require any investigative inquiry to pass along, or make up rumors.
For example; rumors swirl locally that pod people have replaced the entire Board of Education and are awaiting the arrival of the next pod superintendent.
