The Supreme Court said Monday that prayers that open town council meetings do not violate the Constitution even if they routinely stress Christianity. The court said in 5-4 decision that the content of the prayers is not significant as long as officials make a good-faith effort at inclusion. The ruling represents a victory of sorts for Allegany County Commission President Mike McKay. Shortly after taking office three years ago, McKay brought prayer back to commission meetings after the practice hadn’t been used for some time. Although sometimes referencing his “Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”- more often than McKay has offered a non-denominational prayer that addresses God as the “Supreme Architect of the Universe.” McKay tells WCBC News that he sees the ruling by the Supreme Court as a win for Christianity…
