Republican Caucus asking Governor Moore to veto Gun Safety Act of 2023

May 16th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland House Republican Caucus has sent a letter to Governor Wes Moore asking him to veto Senate Bill1 – the Gun Safety Act of 2023.  The Caucus tells the governor in the letter that the bill is unconstitutional in its attempt to expand locations where carrying is prohibited in direct violation of 2nd and 14th Amendment rights.  The letter states in part, “The bill will do little to curb the rate of violent crime in Maryland. Prior to the passage of SB 1, Maryland was already home to some of the most restrictive gun laws in the United States. Even so, the number of violent crimes committed with firearms has continuously risen over the last several years.”  The letter is signed by Maryland Republican delegates including Jason Buckel, Terry Baker, and Jim Hinebaugh.
