Request for Proposals coming to Cumberland’s Historic City Center

October 11th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland's Downtown Development Commission will be releasing a request for proposals later in November to address the ongoing maintenance of the historic City center. Over a month ago the city of Cumberland transferred its only maintenance employee that was responsible for the Baltimore Street corridor to the city's Streets Department. The RFP's will address removal of trash, maintenance of plants and trees and the removal of snow. Larry Jackson is the President of the Downtown Development Commission discussed the proposals with volunteers of the board during Thursday's meeting…

"Maintenance contract is going to go out, the RFP. The thing that we've talked about it would be possible theoretically for somebody's really good at a lot of this stuff that does not want to do the snow plowing that could be a separate RFP. Because they are sort of kind of different vendors and it could be like that where somebody's on retainer to do the walks when it snows and that's all they do. That's their contract you know, if it snows you shovel for the DDC."
