Two years ago the Allegany County Commissioners announced that the county intends to make securing funding for a replacement span for the Washington Street bridge a top transportation priority- however some supporters of the project feel it may no longer be a focal point. When the project dropped a few spots on the county’s transportation priority list this year- it raised a red flag- and caught the attention of members of the Washington Street Association. While work is moving forward on the other two West Side bride projects- the Washington Street Bridge is a far more complicated replacement because of both design parameters and historical requirements. Some members of the association say theyare becoming skeptical about the commitment of local officials in getting the Washington Street bridge replaced.
