School Bus Driver Sentenced on Sex Offense Charges

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Maryland, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced:

On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, Travis K. Heavner, 36, of Flintstone, Maryland pled guilty to Fourth Degree Sex Offense. The charge, and eventual conviction, was the result of an incident occurring in the years 2003/2004 wherein Heavner had inappropriate sexual contact with a female juvenile.  Mr. Heavner was sentenced to the maximum sentence of one year incarceration with three months suspended and credit for time served.  Mr. Heavner had served seven months incarceration awaiting trial in this matter.  He was placed on five years of supervised probation with the standard conditions of probation; special conditions of probation are that he has no contact with the victim and witnesses of this matter.  Mr. Heaver is subject to sex offender registration for fifteen years.

Mr. Lane was quoted as saying; “These are some of the most difficult cases we as prosecutors are called to act upon.  It becomes exponentially more difficult when the violation occurs years in the past”.  The above plea was fashioned by consulting extensively with the victim and her family, and balancing their needs with the concept of justice.  The plea as taken was tendered with the full faith and support of the victim and her family”.

Prosecuting the case for the State was Assistant State’s Attorneys Samuel Lane and Karen Detrick; Mr. Heavner was represented by G.V. McKinley, Esq.
