At Monday’s State of the County program at Allegany College, flood damages were a main point of discussion. To date, the county has paid out $7 million dollars for flood damage repairs. If recovery funds do not come from federal or state sources, County Administrator Jason Bennett says commissioners will have no choice but to raise taxes…
“We’ve got $34 million dollars in damages. The entirety of our existing general obligation debt today is right around $30 million dollars. So, if we have to go to the bond market and borrow – call it $30 to 35 million dollars, it’s going to double our existing debt service.”
