The Hogan Administration left the state of Maryland with a record 5.5 billion dollar budget reserve. Enter Governor Wes Moore – with the new governor’s aggressive campaign promises and programs, the state is now going to be looking at deficits in future budget years with no guarantee of revenues to match spending. The bulk of the spending lies in the Blueprint for Education plan that is already causing tightened belts in the state’s counties. Delegate Mike McKay says the best thing to do right now may be to put the plan on the backburner…
Going into the next session, McKay says that the minority party has to work to build an understanding of fiscal responsibility moving forward…
