Maryland is launching a Registered Teacher Apprenticeship program to help with the state’s educator shortage. Aspiring teachers will be able to begin work in classrooms while they earn their college degree and teaching license. Apprentices will have access to flexible course offerings and be able to earn credits for on-the-job training through partnerships with colleges and universities. The program is starting in Washington and Caroline counties in early 2026.
