On Saturday July 8, 2023 Deputies responded to the area of the Bel Air Plaza in Cresaptown to make contact with a subject who initially claimed that he had been robbed. Deputies made contact with the subject but quickly learned that a robbery had not occurred. The subject claimed that someone was driving him from Baltimore, MD to Virginia, however, the driver abandoned the subject at a nearby convenience store when they stopped to use the bathroom.
The subject advised he could not provide information on who the driver of the vehicle was, nor could he provide sufficient information to describe the vehicle they were traveling in other than it being a truck. The subject continuously tried to get Deputies to drive him to either Baltimore, MD or to Virginia.
After taking the original complaint, Deputies were contacted by employees of a nearby business who advised that a suspicious passenger car had been parked in their parking lot for an extended period of time. An investigation into the vehicle revealed that it was reported stolen out of Baltimore, MD. Evidence at the scene indicated that the subject who initially reported the robbery was actually the person who had been using the stolen passenger car until it ran out of gas.
When Deputies returned to the Bel Air Plaza to make contact with the original subject, he fled on foot. Deputies received assistance from the Maryland State Police in a search for the suspect. Numerous citizens observed the suspect fleeing the area and directed law enforcement to his whereabouts through multiple neighborhoods where he was apprehended approximately a mile away.
Ultimately, 22 year old Jalen Kyle Dixon of Baltimore, MD was taken into custody and charged with the following:
Motor Vehicle Theft
Felony Theft
