The Maryland Family Network recently conducted a survey that found over 50% of child care programs in Maryland may close due to the coronavirus pandemic. Overall, 51% of child care providers said they may close due to children being kept home for an extended period of time amid the pandemic. Child care professionals told the Maryland Family Network they will need continued support from lawmakers to remain open or to reopen once restrictions are lifted. The survey found 67% of child care programs have reported financial loss due to low attendance and closures. The survey found 78% of those open, are working at a reduced capacity. To remain open or be able to eventually reopen, 60% of respondents report they need financial support and 30% say better access to cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment is also needed.
