Tillman elected Keyser’s next Mayor

June 13th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Mineral Tribune reports voters overwhelmingly sent Damon Tillman to the office of mayor and kept one incumbent council member and added a newcomer in voting Tuesday in the City of Keyser.
A voter turnout which far surprised previous years cast 232 votes for newcomer Tillman, with the second in line, Brenda Gank Kitzmiller, coming in at 170 votes, followed by Sonny Alt with 95 and Eric Murphy with 74.
In the race for the two council seats coming open, incumbent Jenninfer Junkins took the lead, with 310 votes for her to return to her seat.
She was followed closely by 290 votes for newcomer William Zacot, who will take the seat currently occupied by Sonny Alt.
The rest of the field was as follows: Glenn “Sonny” Gank, 282; William Sekella Wahl, 80; Kevin Vaughan, 32; Mark Tranum (who had previously withdrawn from the race but was too late to have his name removed from the ballot), 28; and Herman Judy, 21.
Since Murphy’s term on the council had not yet expired, he will retain his seat on the council, along with Terry Liller and Karol Ashenfelter.
The new officials will take office in July.
