Bills have now exchanged legislative chambers in Annapolis that would allow people to buy health insurance through Maryland’s healthcare exchange, regardless of immigration status. The “Access to Care” Act would require a federal waiver since currently undocumented residents are not legally able to purchase federally funded coverage. The American Immigration Council estimates there are 221,000 undocumented immigrants in Maryland.
