Water Service interuption planned for downtown area next week

August 12th, 2022 by WCBC Radio

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Construction, would like to notify the public that water service will be affected in the Decatur Heights and Downtown regions of the City on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, thru Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 8am – 5pm, in order for the contractor to connect the new water main to the existing crosstown water main.

On Tuesday, 8/16/2022, residents of Altamont Street will be without water between 8am-5pm. At this time, the City does not anticipate that any residents will be without water for any extended period of time on Wednesday, 8/17/2022 or Thursday, 8/18/2022.

Residents of the Decatur Heights and Downtown Region should expect a reduction in pressure due a portion of the distribution system being shut down. Pressures should be restored by the end of the day on Thursday, 8/18/2022.

Additional information will be released in the event the planned outage area needs to be expanded or the duration needs extended.

Efforts to restore the roadways in the Decatur Heights area are expected to begin on 8/22/2022, depending on weather and construction progress next week.

Traffic control devices will be in place to detour vehicles around the work area.

Residents are advised to avoid the area as much as possible during this time to allow for the work to be completed safely and successfully.

Thank you for your cooperation during this time. Please use caution in the area and follow all traffic control devices that will be in place. If there are any questions, please contact the City of Cumberland Engineering Department, 301-759-6600.
