In January of 2026, West Virginia residents will no longer be able to purchase soda in the state with their SNAP benefits. It’s part of Governor Patrick Morrisey’s plan to make the state healthier – currently 41% of residents in the state are overweight. To make up for the loss of sugary drinks, Morrisey says they are working to add more nutritious choices…
“Items such as chicken rotisserie, some of the healthy hot meals that might be available now that otherwise won’t. So the goal here, knowing the incredible expense that’s borne by SNAP for soda, we’re trying to have some of the offsets for really healthy food.”
