County Commissioners Decide to Not Increase Property Taxes

During last night’s Allegany County Commissioners meeting, an outline of the FY 2026 budget was presented which included the $0.02 property tax increase.  However, the Commissioners voted against increasing property tax altogether.  Instead, they are prepared to pull the amount from the County’s fund balance.  This would increase the total pulled from the fund to about $2.9 million instead of $1.8 million.  Commissioner Dave Caporale and the other commissioners said they don't want to increase the tax this year… “You know, this is an extraordinary year for us and a lot of moving parts, many things happening, but I, you…

Parade Grand Marshal Announced

Cumberland’s first Memorial Day parade in many years now has a Grand Marshal. Caller Updates On Calvary Christian Academy

A caller to WCBC on Thursday morning brought new information about the situation at Calvary Christian Academy in Cresaptown.  The caller says Calvary Baptist Church would like to sell the McMullen Highway property and move to the former Saint Ambrose Church, but they do not want another church to buy the property. Morrisey Signs Power Generation & Consumption Act

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed the Power Generation and Consumption Act into law.  He signed the bill in Point Pleasant where a 2,000 acre data center campus is slated for construction, a type of project that Morrisey says the new law is designed to attract.     “We have a lot of competitive advantages. We have abundant resources like coal and natural gas and water. We have strategic locations for data security. We have a regulatory framework that’s second to none.”

Evergreen Heritage Center Receives Maryland Historical Trust Award

Van Hollen Criticizes Trump’s First 100 Days

Maryland’s US Senator Chris Van Hollen spoke for over 40 minutes on the Senate floor on the lawlessness that he says has defined the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term in office. Paul Skenes Loses Third Game of Season

The Chicago Cubs clubbed three home runs in the fifth inning off Paul Skenes Thursday as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-3.  Skenes is now 3-3 on the season.  The Cubs took two of three in the series.

Van Hollen Meets With Fired Workers

On President Trump’s 100th day in office, Maryland US Senator Chris Van Hollen took time to meet with federal government workers who have lost their jobs as part of Trump’s overhaul of various government agencies and programs. South George Street Water Main Replacement Scheduled

Beginning Monday, May 5, 2025, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, S. George Street from Baltimore Street to Union Street will be closed to traffic for a water main replacement.  The project will continue through the end of May.  The road closure will be updated as the project progresses. There will be no interruption of water service.
