City Leaning Towards Supporting Footer Dye Works Application

After garnering an opinion from the Maryland Attorney General’s office indicating that demolition of the Footer Dye Works building would be nearly impossible to achieve- it appears as though the Cumberland Mayor and City Council may be leaning toward supporting its application to be placed on the Maryland Historical Registry. The Council discussed the controversial issue at last night’s meeting. The future of the building has essentially boiled down to a commercial development versus demolition debate in recent years. City solicitor Michael Cohen said that a benefit to being placed on the registry is that it would open up the opportunity for a total of 40% in state and federal tax credits for the potential developer of the property.
