Local physician irked by Canal Board member’s comments

October 18th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

A statement from Doug Reed, the Maryland Historic Trust’s representative on the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority, calling those in favor of tearing down the Footer Dye Works building "ill informed"  has drawn the ire of one local physician. Reed made those comments during the Tuesday meeting of the Authority Board, reacting to recent debate over whether or not to demolish the historic building. In a letter to the Trust’s Director, Rodney Little,  Dr. Sean McCagh of Cumberland called Reed’s words “arrogant” and “condescending” . McCagh further opined that mothballing the aging structure at a cost of $50,000 seems like a waste of money.  He ends his letter with an invitation for Little to visit Cumberland and to take a tour of the Footer building.
