98 New Cases, 1 Additional COVID Death in Allegany County

The Allegany County Health Department reports 98 new COVID cases in Allegany County and one additional death since Monday.  This brings the county’s cumulative case count to 5,374 with 154 deaths.  The current case rate in Allegany County is 40.78 cases per 100,000 population, while Maryland’s state average is currently 37.01 cases per 100,000 population.  Allegany’s positivity rate is now at 8.55%, while the statewide average is 8.22%. 

 

Public health officials continue to stress the importance of wearing a mask, social distancing, and avoiding gatherings of any size to continue to reduce the spread of illness in our community.  “We have seen a decrease in the COVID-19 infection rate in Allegany County in recent weeks, and we want that trend to continue,” said Jenelle Mayer, Health Officer for Allegany County.  She went on to encourage community members to be diligent in following public health guidance. 

 

Please note that there will be NO fairgrounds drive-thru testing and no ACHD media updates on Friday, January 1.  Testing will resume Monday, January 4 from 2 to 7 p.m.
