Additional Funds Sought for New Allegany High School

Additional local dollars may be needed to complete the new Allegany High School project. Although there were lengthy, often times heated debates last year between the Allegany County Board of Education and the County Commissioners over funding for the new school- ultimately a compromise was reached, and the county agreed to make it a top capital priority. The initial funding commitment however may not be enough and the school board has made overtures to the commissioners about the possibility of hiking the local share. The hope is that the new school will open its doors in the fall of 2017- however state dollars for such projects are often in a state of flux. Last week Commissioner Mike Mckay and County Administrator David Eberly met with School Board President Sara Beth James and Superintendent David Cox to discuss the fiscal picture.
