Allegany County Animal Shelter Closed to Walk-ins

Effective immediately, the Allegany County Animal Shelter will be CLOSED for all walk-ins.  We will continue to make animals available for foster and adoption, but individuals MUST call (301-777-5930) and schedule an appointment first.  Our adoptable pets are available online at  To download the adoption or foster application, please visit our website

We are also suspending our Hounds Around Town program at this time and are not accepting new volunteers.  Individuals interested in volunteering or participating in Hounds Around Town once we return to normal operations may download the appropriate forms from our website and fax them to 301-777-2168 or email

Individuals who wish to donate, may do so by visiting our website or by mailing donations to ACAS, P.O. Box 566, Cumberland, MD 21501. If you have physical donations to drop off, you may leave them at the front door and staff will make sure they are collected. 

If you are struggling to feed your pets, please call us, we can help.  

We are not accepting owner surrender animals at this time. Animal intake will be for Animal Control emergencies only.  Animal Control may be reached Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. by calling 240-362-7518.  For Animal Control emergencies outside business hours, please call 911.
