Allegany County Officials Begin Process Of Banning Automated Speed Cameras

September 27th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County officials have begun the process of banning the use of automated speed cameras.  At Thursday’s meeting, Commission President Jake Shade introduced a code home rule bill that would ban speed cameras on County-maintained roads. While bans are in place in some states, Allegany County is the first county in Maryland to ban the devices.  Shade said the proposed ban is another step toward protecting taxpayers and those traveling through Western Maryland from what he called another “money-grabbing scheme”

I applaud President Shade for the county’s common sense in staying out of the money grab offered by speed cameras.
Now the state needs to get on the bandwagon also as the only place I’ve ever seen (and yes, caught) a speed camera was on I-70 near Hagerstown.

The cameras are routinely used at highway construction sites – installed and operated by the state. It has helped reduce deaths among people working on busy highways – which has been a problem. Naturally ‘little Trumper’ Shade needs to burnish his outsider credentials as he continues on his path as a career politician – he needs something for the next campaign to show as a sign that is simple and easy for the undereducated to appreciate.

The cameras only are money grabbers when the county wants to use them that way. In Frederick the cameras have greatly reduced accidents, and after a few months do not generate a lot of revenue, because people remember where they are and drive accordingly.

    Great!
But Don’t forget SPEED TRAPS ~ ESP When Cops sit Right n spots where speed drops 45 to 25 mph~They should be required 1/2 mile away & more than 1 small speed limit sign b4 change = Industrial BLVD East & West have 2 Notorious HOT Spots!
#2~Reduce Fines & FEES now charged
#3~ELIMINATE Monthly ticket/case ‘Quotas’ required for each cop & their Points/Reward System! It’s Bull & UNFAIR when cops are Forced to target every small minor non-threat infraction All bcuz cops need to make monthly Quotas!
I 100% RESPECT HONOR & APPRECIATE ALL OUR POLICE OFFICERS ~ But, it’s unfair to both civilians & cops when laws ➕ Quotas are aimed at making $$ off citizens’ Human mistakes/oversights & Legalized forms of Entrapment vs policing for public safety

If you dont exceed the speed limit, you won’t get a ticket. Speed limit is maximum 65mph in a 65mph speed limit. They should do more to teach safe driving cars are not toys and 10mph faster is not worth dying.
