City Police Make Theft Arrests

Theft Arrest

On September 28, 2016 the Cumberland Police responded to a Maryland Avenue business for the report of a Theft.  Upon arrival the Officer spoke to an employee.  The employee stated a subject came into the store and purchased items but also placed items in his pocket and left the store without paying for the items.  The employee showed the Officer video evidence of the theft.  While still on the scene the employee observed the subject, later identified as William Murphy, across the street.  The employee positively identified Murphy as the subject who stole items from the store.  The Officer contacted Murphy and issued him a criminal citation for Theft.  Murphy was released pending trial in Allegany County District Court.

William Murphy, age:  61, Cumberland, MD

Charge:  Theft: less than $100.00

 

Theft Arrests

On September 28, 2016 Cumberland Police arrested two subjects in regards to a Theft that occurred at a Park Street business on September 16, 2016.  On that date a store employee called the Police regarding two subjects who entered the store, filled two shopping carts with items and fled the store without paying for the items.  Video surveillance was used to identify both subjects and Jason Garlitz and Jimmy Gulledge Jr.  Charges were filed on both and both were served with the arrest warrants.  Both subjects were taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s office.  Gulledge Jr. was held on $5,000 bond and Garlitz was held on $3,000 bond.  Both were then transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.

Jimmy Gulledge Jr., 23, Cumberland, MD

Charge: Theft between $1,000 and $10,000

 

Jason Garlitz, 24, Cumberland, MD

Charge: Theft: less than $1,000
