Concerns Remain For Future Of Former Luke Paper Mill Employees

The future of former employees of the Luke paper mill as well as the plant site itself remain an issues of concern for county, state and federal representatives.  The mill, owned by the Verso Corporation, was closed June 30, which resulted in the loss of nearly 700 on-site jobs and more than 2,000 ancillary jobs for contract workers in trucking, repair and supply, as well as workers in the coal and timber industries. While many mill workers have been able to secure jobs- there are many still looking. Congressman David Trone tells WCBC News that there has been a strong team effort on the part of various levels of government to assist those displaced workers- but adds there are no easy answers…
