A new economic development initiative was launched by the chamber of commerce and Allegany County in September- designed to get business leaders and the community to “buy in” to their role in economic development. Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Director Stu Czapski says the county can’t be expected to “do it all” when it comes to economic development, adding that “It takes a community.” For example, Czapski said, if the community decides it wants to develop better broadband capabilities, the new committee can provide a reality check and ensure that progress is being made. The past several months have been dedicated largely to taking preliminary steps in forming the new Economic Development Strategic Planning committee and outlining objectives.
