Fight to Prevent COVID-19 Inmates from WV Continues

May 8th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The battle to keep COVID-19 infected inmates out of West Virginia's two federal prisons continues, with three more inmates at the Gilmer prison testing positive yesterday. WCBC told Governor Jim Justice of the increase at yesterday's news briefing, and Justice reacted accordingly…

General Counsel Brian Abraham followed up, saying the state had received a letter from the administrator of the federal prison system yesterday, claiming that all steps were being taken to keep inmates and corrections personnel safe. As of yesterday, no inmates had been moved into FCI-Hazelton, although Local 240 officials told WCBC News it could happen at any time. The Hazelton prison is located less than an hour from Cumberland off of Interstate 68.
