Ground Zero Mosque Still Point of Controversy

September 13th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

Although the debate and controversy appears to have died down somewhat,  plans to locate a mosque near Ground Zero in New York are continuing according to the founder of the Cordoba Initiative. Despite receiving approval from a community board a year ago, it provoked vocal opposition from some families of 9/11 victims and other groups.  The mosque was a major controversy around the time of last year’s 9/11 anniversary, but since then it has died down. That’s been in no small part because the mosque builders have run into several problems as they’ve tried to fundraise, raising questions about whether the project will ever even come to fruition. WCBC News discussed the controversial plan with several of the bikers who rode through Cumberland as part of the annual 9-11 freedom ride.
