Local Teacher, Businessman Passes Away

Former businessman and Allegany College of Maryland teacher James Demo Zamagias passed away Saturday. Zamagias moved to the Cumberland area in 1963 to own and operate the White Oaks Village Dairy, which he sold in 1979. From 1964 to 2006, Zamagias was a professor of English and Philosophy at Allegany College of Maryland, where he served as the Chairman of Humanities. He also published numerous textbooks which were used by colleges around the country. Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Welfare Society, Allegany College of Maryland, or Bishop Walsh School.
